The streets of Chicago were pretty violent in the 20's and 30's with al capone, bugs moran etc.

I think there are more violent people around than there used to be. either that, or it just seems like it because it is in the news more.

People have an animal instinct so, were always violent. Like, yelling, physical fights, verbal fights, long distant fights, gossip, and etc. If anything females are becoming a little more physical then before because of the role changes in society. Many children are being raised by one parent with an increase in single unwed mothers living to be both the mother and the father. Case in point girl gangs are on the rise but, at the same time more girls are graduating from school then many men in many different places. So, to answer your question yes and no there's just a role  change.

Maybe it's always been the same but now we see it more on the news and on all this reality shows that bombard our TVs with violence.

People have always been violent... and always will be... i dont think it gets better or worse.

I think people in general are more aggressive in nature than they used to be. It's more socially acceptable to rebel against authority than it used to be. That, with drugs and alcohol adding to the mix, and people being more interested in exercising their own rights to enjoyment and a good time, often at the expense of everyone else's rights, has meant that we are all generally having to "fight" harder to stop ourselves being victimised by the arrogant ones who are only interested in self gain.
