Gennaro Gattuso demands more of AC Milan teammates
AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has said his team must start showing more commitment after their 2–2 draw against Real Madrid on Wednesday, 3 November.
Massimiliano Allegri's team managed to take a 2–1 lead thanks to Filippo Inzaghi's two goals in the second half, but the Italians failed to protect their lead when Pedro Leon equalised for Real in the fourth minute of added time.
Gattuso, who has made over 300 league appearances for the Italians since 1999, said his teammates have to follow the example set forth by their 37-year-old teammate.
"We need to take examples from Filippo Inzaghi. We are not giving our best and we are struggling to give 100 per cent. We have to give more," the 32-year-old told
Tuttosport.
The Italian international, who was brought to Milan by Carlo Ancelotti in 1999 to allow Andrea Pirlo more offensive freedom in the team's formation, has come to be known for his hot temper and unyielding team loyalty, whether to his club or the national
team.
Assisted Milan's second goal
In a rare defensive slip, the toiling midfielder failed to cover when Angel di Maria supplied Gonzalo Higuain for Real's first goal. He made up for the mistake in the second half, when his long ball supplied Inzaghi for Milan's second goal.
After the draw, Gattuso said his teammates must start showing more dedication to the team.
"We cannot have players who don't give their soul. If we want to carry on playing like this, then we need to have a balance from everyone. We are Milan and we must win because we are built to do so."
Massimiliano Allegri's team will get a chance to show their determination to improve on Sunday, 7 November, when they travel to face Bari in the Serie A.
Milan are currently third in the league with 17 points from nine games.
