Feyenoord Rotterdam’s Ronald Koeman keen to retain Leroy Fer for another season – Eredivisie news
Newly appointed to stay at De Kuip Stadion for another season. Fer had clearly expressed his desire to make a move away from the Rotterdam giants before the 2011/12 season commences,
but Koeman has now revealed that he will make sure a move does not materialise.
The young midfielder started his professional career at Feijenoord Stadion in the 2007/08 campaign after training with the Rotterdam giants’ youth academy for almost eight years. The central midfielder has so far managed to find the back of the net on 13
occasions in 109 appearances.
The youngster has an ongoing contract with the Stadiumclub that is due to expire in the summer of 2012. A contract extension was offered to the young midfielder but the starlet does not intend to extend his stay.
Koeman admitted that Fer is an important player for his side and revealed that he will do everything to retain his services for another season.
“I will definitely talk with Leroy. He is a very important player for the club and I will love to have him in the squad. I will do everything to keep him here. Such a player belongs to this club. However, if he decides to leave, he should go abroad”, Koeman
said while talking to the journalists.
Fer has remained heavily linked with a move to join The Tukkers tabled a bid of 2.5 million Euros for the 21-year-old’s
signature, but the Rotterdam giants are adamant on their 5 million Euro demand.
Reports indicate that Feyenoord would try again to convince Fer into staying at the club. However, should the negotiations fail to bear fruit, the Stadiumclub would seriously consider selling their starlet before the 2011/12 campaign commences.
