English of Canada ?!?

Hi! I'm an italian boy. I like your country and I'd like to know: if english of Canada It's more similar to American English or to British English? And what about differences with British English? Thank you very much!

Canadians sound more similar to Americans. The British have very different accents.

However, British english and Canadian english have more similar spellings for words, whereas America differs for some words (there aren't very many, but they are there). For example, the British write realise with an s, however the Americans would write realize with a z. Also the Americans tend to drop a 'u', whereas the British keep it, eg. colour (British), and color (American). Small differences, but when you know the language well you can notice them quite easily.

Canadian English is quite similar to American English, but quite a lot different from British English.

Well, of course, I'm just speaking in very general terms. It all depends on how closely you analyse the language and how well you know it. For example, a person living in Canada will say that Canadian English is very different from American English. And anyway, there are different kinds of Canadian English and different kinds of American English. The same as for you, no doubt, there are probably big differences between the Italian of, for example, Sicily and the Italian of Milan, but for people who don't know Italian, all speakers of Italian sound about the same.

So, in the same way, *generally* speaking, you can think of Canadians and Americans sounding similar, but British speakers very different.

As for the differences between Britain and North America, there are many. Perhaps you can Google it.
