England v India 2011 – 2nd Test at Trent Bridge - Match Preview
In the battle of Test supremacy, England are all set to face India in the second Test of the four-match series, at the Trent Bridge, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 today, Friday, July 29, 2011.
While India would be looking forward to emulate their performance at the Trent Bridge during their last tour of England, four years ago, the hosts must be eager to widen the gap to confirm their place at the top of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test rankings table.
The hosts are currently leading the series 1-0 with a comprehensive 196-run win in the series opener at the Lord’s, earlier this week. The Lord’s shambles must have taught Dhoni and his men that history and luck do not often repeat themselves and that one
has to be good at the ground to prove prowess in any format of the game.
During their last tour to England, in the summer of 2007, the tourists succeeded to salvage a tame draw at Lord’s, thanks to the rain, before going on to win the subsequent Test at Nottingham by seven wickets. The third and the last Test of the 2007 NatWest
Series, played at The Oval, ended in a draw as the tourists prevailed in the three-match series 1-0.
However, this time around, it seems Andrew Strauss and his men are determined to climb up the Test rankings by defeating India, the current Test number one side, with a margin of two games.
The Trent Bridge deck is traditionally a seam and swing friendly wicket. With Indian pace attack spearhead, Zaheer Khan, ruled out of the second Test as well and England having a strong pace attack with the likes of in-form http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 and Stuart Broad,
the hosts seem to be favourites for the Trent Bridge game.
After making India struggle on the batting friendly Lord’s wickets, Anderson and Broad would be high on confidence when they take on Indian line up at Trent Bridge.
The third prong of the English pace attack, Chris Tremlett, is likely to miss the Nottingham clash as he is struggling with a hamstring problem. England’s Test captain, Andrew Strauss however, is confident that Tremlett will be fit to join Broad and Anderson
at Trent Bridge. If Tremlett fails to make the playing XI on Friday, Tim Bresnan will be a confirmed replacement.
The Indian camp however, is struggling against the niggles as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 is also a doubtful starter for the second Test. The good news for Indian fans is that Sachin Tendulkar has
recovered completely from the viral fever he suffered from during the Lord’s Test.
Weather forecast suggests warm and dry weather in Nottingham for the next five days. The clouds are expected to stay away this week.
