  1. Kicks do work in some sort of competitions

I took karate for 4 to 5 years and still taking them.

Kicks are one of the basic moves in karate. it can score big points, the only problem is that you need to be really careful orelse your gonna kick your opponent hard

In Actual Combat the good parts are

    1. You can get a lot of power by kicking. Kick your opponent in the right place like the crotch, legs, stomach and the head

    2. You barely need control when it's actual dangerous combat, but you got to be very accuate. if you don't hit them in the right spot it just sting for a second.

Theirs also a problem with kicking.

    1. If your opponet is a very skillful fighter, and your kicks were pretty slow, theirs a chance that you will get block and the worst case synario, your opponet will break you leg or worse.

2 It might hurt you instead of your opponent.

    So that's basiclly it.

    Work hard, and practice!

  2. 1.  if your opponent is a good wrestler and you are not, chances are he will put you on the ground no matter what you do, so throw that logic out.

    2.  kicks are very effective if you use them like jabs and dont try to make every kick the end of the fight.  high powerful kicks will tire you and leave you off balance if you miss.  your legs are longer than your arms, you have greater reach with them.

    3.  chop at his legs, thrust kick at his midsection, slow him down and make him stop thinking about the head kick.  watch the cung li/frank shamrock fight to see this in action.

    4.  when he is slow and sore from the low kicks, suprise him with the high kick.  it will only take one if you time it and place it well.

    5.  forget what you see in the movies, it doesnt work like that.

kicks do work in actual combat, but like anyting else it takes practice, practice, practice.

  3. In real life, kicks should only be used to manipulate the fighting range and distance to your advantage, and to distract your attacker/opponent.

High kicks should be avoided because if you miss, and chances are you will in a adrenaline rushed state, you will be completely off balanced and leave yourself open.

Low kicks to disturb/distract your opponent while you implement the rest of our plan, whether it be landing a right hook to the ear, or closing the distance for a takedown.

  4. I would say that kicks are definitly effective, if u know how to use them.

1 - u can generate a helluva lot of power with ur legs. a solid kick to the head can easily knock a person out

2 - not many people think to use them. u might be able to throw them off mentally if they've never seen a kick used in a fight

3 - even if u throw a low kick; ie one to the thigh, shin, or ankle. it can easily drop an opponent. legs can get buckled if u get a good enuf hit on them

4 - they can work great in combos, if ur throwing punches than fire off a quick kick than their attention can be diverted.

all in all, i wud say that if used properlly, kicks can be incredibly useful in a fight.

  5. an mma legend said that fighting in the streets is so much different then fighting in a sport. yes the wrestler can take you down. how ever you get in to a fight with an untrained fighter they gas out in a matter of seconds. take one year wrestling, you can do wushu at the same time

  6. 1.) Legs are longer than arms... no duh!2.) When you practice enough you can throw kicks for hours and not get tired. 3.) Legs are stronger. 4.) Legs can react faster (eg. my friend pinched me from behind and I accidently kicked her in the stomach... they never pinched me again). 5.) Measure how fast and strong your punches are compared to your kicks... do you even have to try? 6.) You can use your leg to block their little slaps and punches. 7.) Plus the karate man is.... in special ed. because all you have to do is kick the wrestler in the head before he reaches you, and moving you foot is faster than moving your body. 8.) WHY WOULD MARTIAL ARTS EMPHASIZE KICKING WHEN IT DOESN'T DARN WORK?!? Hope this helped!

  7. 1. Kicking is good for actual combat. The knees are often neglected in training, a lot of people i know that train to become strong using weights and stuff often neglect their lower body strength anyway.

    2. A reason why kicking is good for actual combat is that, you can chip away at the knees, and thighs, and it can do a lot of damage (especially to the knees)

    3. Another, is, i find that some people dont train to defend kicks, a few people just dont know how to handle being kicked.

    4. Kicks are excellent for keeping ur distance from your opponent (using a front kick to push them back)

    5. An opponent is often focusing on ur eyes, where in their peripheral vision they can see your upper torso, thus ur arms, but they cannot determine your legs (assuming u are kicking low)

    6. Based on what i've said, kicking is good for combat, just dont emphasise high kicking, emphasise strong kicks to the lower body (knees, thighs, etc)

    Hope this has helped.

  8. 1. Kicks give the person more to think about . You throw a kick and now the guy has got to think about that. He'll be less ready to guard against punching. Shooting in for the take down dose the same thing.

aNo offence but I think this question is dumb. Off coarse kicks work in a fight. Haven't you even been kicked before?

  9. YES, kicks are definitely useful in actual fight.

    1. Kicks are useful to check the range, front kick to keep opponent away.

    2. There are several targets that are easier to be reached using kicks.

A kick/knee to groin or a kick to shin bone. Another technique is to kick downward on opponent's kneecap. Very effective and painful

    3. on targeting ribs area, you can deliver more power with a kick than with a punch

If you train well in kicking, in an impact of your leg to opponent's body, it will be similar as if you're using a club.

    4. With all those being said above, high flying double kick or back kick is NOT really realistic to be used in a real fight.

  10. your legs have so much more strength than your arms, but the reason why you dont see many people kick in fights is because they dont know how to.... when you kick you leave your body open most of the time, it also leaves you unbalanced, for example if you were trying to kick me i could grab your leg and throw you to the ground, or just push you over, you have no good balance when executing a kick, of course this can be trained too. Most people fight with their fists and use their arms and hands for grappling because it is the easiest and most available when reacting fast,

If you do not know how to execute a kick as well as youd like if you get into a fight make sure you kick if you kick at all lower than your waist, perhaps to the knees or back of the legs, shins hurt alot too... i hope this helps

p.s i have seen 50% of knockouts are perfectly executed kicks to the head

  11. 1 kicks are great to keep you opponent back at a bigger distance and just kick hi at a distance safe for you.

2 if you can kick fast and with enough power it its really easy to take somone out.

3 you can kick from reasonably close range aswell if you kick with you shin like they do in mauy thai.

4 your legs are very powerful but they arent as fast as your arms so you need to practice them to build up the speed.

    like bruce lee said

"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."

  12. 1. kicks are like any other technique meaning that they have to be executed properly.

    2. Executing kicks can be difficult due to timing as well as vulnerability of a take down being on one foot.

    3. kicks are best utilized in the element of surprise. So don't go kicking about at the on set of the fight.  Because that will just give your opponent a heads up on your kicking capabilities.

    4. the quality of the kick is vital, because if you catch someone upside the head with a decently executed kick, the chances are the fight will be over.

    5. technique will literally make or break the fight because if you do it wrong you can hurt yourself, be ineffective, get taken down, or fall on your a$$.

  13. I got kicked in the nuts once. My view: Effective, painful, works!
