David Brailsford happy with Team Sky 2012 performance
Team Sky has proved its worth in the last few months and an overall victory at the Tour de France makes it the best cycling team all across the United Kingdom.
Team Sky has managed to become the top cycling team across the United Kingdom and Team General Manager David Brailsford has noted that his next goal is to make it, "the best cycling team the world’s ever seen".
"I feel driven to do that," Brailsford. The components of that are winning the best races out there, over a sustained period of time, and doing it clean”.
“There are a lot of things you can identify in that process that will keep you motivated and make you get out of bed in the morning".
Team Sky started the 2012 season on a high-note and leads the UCI World Tour team’s rankings with a total number of 1318 points in his back pocket.
Major contributions came through Bradley Wiggins (601 points), Christopher Froome (266 points), Michael Rogers (129 points), Rigoberto Uran and Mark Cavendish (128 points).
Bradley Wiggins leads the Individual classifications while Christopher Froome and Michael Rogers grabbed the 6th and the 12th positions in the respective order with 266 and 194 UCI points.
Bradley Wiggins became the first British cyclist in the 109-year history of the Tour de France to walk home with an overall victory at the race.
Wiggins is not the only cyclist who impressed the audience with his terrific performance at the race as his team-mate and compatriot Christopher Froome received the second overall position at the race.
The British team’s biggest victory of the season came during the Tour de France as the team worked like a unit under the leadership of David Brailsford.
Wiggins grabbed the top spot after the Tour de France stage 7 classifications and never looked back until the final general classifications of the race.
He secured the first overall position after the final general classifications and bagged his first overall victory at the French race.
Bradley noted, "I've got to get used to going into the history books now, but I’m just trying to take everything in today first”.
“It’s very surreal at the moment because this type of things [usually] happens to other people. You never imagine it happening to yourself," he concluded.
Not only Wiggins but Christopher Froome also rode exceptionally well and occupied the only second best position available at the most competitive sporting event of the race.
Froome finished 3 minutes and 21 seconds behind and achieved the second overall position after the Tour de France overall classifications.
Vincenzo Nibali of Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Jurgen Van Den Broeck and Tejay Van Garderen achieved the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Green jersey winner of the Tour de France 2011, Mark Cavendish also supported the team with his fourth overall position after the overall point’s classifications.
Peter Sagan of Team Liquigas-Cannondale leads the category with 421 UCI points while Andre Greipel and Matthew Harley Goss claimed the second and the third positions with 280 and 268 UCI points respectively.
Team Sky managed to grab the second position after the Tour de France team’s classifications while Team RadioShack-Nissan held the first position.
Team BMC, Team Astana and Team Liquigas-Cannondale holds the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
