Chael Sonnen will host 2013 World MMA Awards – UFC News
It seems like Chael Sonnen’s charisma is not just limited to his fans, even others in the industry appreciate it. One of the most controversial fighters in the UFC, Chael Sonnen hosted last year’s World MMA Awards ceremony. This time around, the organisers have once again selected the American Gangster to host the show, believing that he knows how to entertain viewers.
“Chael did a fantastic job as host last year and we are elated to be able to work with him again,” said Rob Hewitt, President and CEO of Fighters Only.
“The commanding presence of Chael combined with the beauty and skill of Molly make the perfect partnership as hosts and we feel sure that they will make this years show even more entertaining,” he added.
Sonnen will be hosting the show along with Molly Qerim of CBS. It will be the fifth awards ceremony of Fighters Only World MMA.
The American Gangster loves being the centre of attention, whether it is by cracking jokes at his opponents or by calling them out to fight. More or less, every person in the industry knows that Sonnen has a way with words and he achieves what he wants to.
Recently, the two-time world title challenger called out light heavyweight champion Jon Jones for a fight. Even though initially Jones declined the idea of fighting Sonnen, he did come a conclusion later on, giving Sonnen the fight he wanted.
Now, Sonnen is scheduled to take on Jon Jones on The Ultimate Fighter Season 17, due to take place next year. It will be Sonnen’s third title shot, and probably his only shot at Jones.
Previously, Sonnen challenged middleweight titlist Anderson Silva twice and lost. He was unable to end Silva’s undefeated reign as champion, something he had promised to accomplish. Now, Sonnen wishes to take on the light heavyweight titlist to end his era. Of course, most analysts are predicting an easy win for Jones.
Whether complacent or not, one thing is for sure, Sonnen is definitely one of the most entertaining fighters in UFC today. Even though he is not as accomplished as his competitors, he has a way of engaging fans when he is out there.
