Buccaneers’ WR Mike Williams arrested on DUI suspicion
Wide receiver Mike Williams was arrested early Friday morning on a suspicion of DUI. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' breakout star was pulled over after police spotted his black Escalade speeding and weaving
through traffic.
Williams was pulled over at around 2:30 am and police said his eyes looked a little ‘glassy’. A breathalyzer test actually revealed that Williams’ blood alcohol was 0.065, below the legal limit of 0.08.
A DUI investigation can still be conducted if there are signs of impairment, regardless of blood alcohol levels.
Williams has agreed to provide a urine test for the toxicology reports, but the results could take as long as four to six weeks.
Williams has had an amazing first year in Tampa Bay. He has caught 40 passes for 627 yards and five touchdowns. Buccaneers officials have said that Williams will travel with the team Sunday to play against
the San Francisco 49ers. What the Buccaneers may do is sit Williams for a while before putting him in the game, much like the Jets did with Braylon Edwards earlier in the year.
The investigation is still ongoing and the Buccaneers will decide if they will enforce any disciplinary action on Williams.
"We are in the process of gathering all the facts. Mike has been very cooperative," said Bucs general manager Mark Dominik said.
As a first-time offender to the league’s personal conduct policy, the 23-year-old is unlikely to face a suspension by Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Williams had a couple of off-field problems back in college with Syracuse. The fourth-round draft pick was a standout star, but missed all of the 2008 season after being accused of cheating on a test.
He also missed the last five games of the 2009 season with curfew violations. That is likely what left him under the radar for the draft and why he was only selected in the fourth round.
