Zenit St. Petersburg defender, Bruno Alves, has spoken ahead of the Russian Premier League encounter against Anzhi Makhachkala at Khazar stadium.
The reigning Russian champions have never won against Anzhi away from home but the talented defender is ready to break the duck with a prolific performance against the wild division.
Alves revealed his frustration over Zenit’s unsatisfactory results at Makhachkala, referring to last year’s 2-2 draw. The Sine-Belo-Golubye had earned a two goal lead at the Khazar Stadium but the match eventually ended in a draw.
The former stopper has assured the travelling fans that the team is enjoying good form at the moment after defeating FC Khimki in the Russian Cup tie. The team is ready to exhibit a similar performance away from home, Alves believes.
The Portuguese national has revealed that the team is united under Luciano Spalletti, and the Bomzhi will travel to Makhachkala with confidence.
“It is very important for us to beat Anzhi because it will be a real battle with a team that is located at the top of the league table. We understand that it will be hard.” Alves was quoted as saying.
Alves has hailed the impact of the Russian billionaire and Anzhi president, Suleyman Kerimov, who has provided the Russian club with attacking reinforcements in order to turn the wild division into a stronger team.
The Portuguese league winner identified as potential threats to Zenit.
“They have a lot of good performers; they are strong as a team. They have a strong line of defence including a man like Roberto Carlos. He is a fantastic player who is able to do wonders on the field, and Diego Tardelli would be another threat.” The stopper
went on.
The Russian Premier League winning defender has admitted that Anzhi deserve the place on the league table and it will be difficult for Zenit to stretch their defence.
Currently Zenit are at the second place on the league table and three points are necessary to cut short CSKA Mosvow’s lead at the top of the table. The Army Men have extended their lead to seven points after winning against Volga Nizhny Novgorod.
