Question:

Boat ready for use?

After an inboard/outboard boat has been winterized for the cold season, when spring comes can you just start it up and take the boat out? Or do you have to "unwinterize" it before use? Are there any specific preparations that need to be done to a winterized boat before taking it out in the spring?

  1. As you did not say where in the world you are, and since there are a lot of variables, a single answer would not be suitable and could cost you a lot of money, I highly recommend that you ask the boat's previous owner, or a dealer in your area for guidance.

What is done to winter boats in Cleveland, OH is much different than boats in Knoxville, TN, and the differences are not readily apparent to the uninitiated.

  2. Recharge Battery

    Fill gas tank

Some places run anti-freeze through the motor when they fog the carbuerator, you will need to throughly flush to get all the anti-freeze out before putting in the water.

    Check oil

    Lube

    Go enjoy!

  3. Should be a simple matter of checking the fluids for contamination and opening the cooling water sea c***s. Crank the engine, if possible manually a few turns, to make sure she's free (either disable ignition or shut off diesel). Choke on. Crank her over, ignition/fuel enabled, a little "coldstart" (basically ether) sprayed into the air intake for petrol or diesel will work wonders, but don't flood, and watch for backfires. Have a fire extinguisher at hand. She should fire right up. Check you have cooling water discharge. If there a turbo check she's spinning.

  4. Make sure your manifold and block plugs are back in  and tight.
