We are living in Fort Myers, FL...is there a good school instructor nearby, or should we try one of the schools on the East Coast?

Also is Venice a good place to learn...looks like decent breaks for a beginner?

  1. nowhere....go to the east coast

  2. Hi.  Look for the humans with surf boards.  The stuff

people pack on top of the car maybe boogie boarders

and they do a lot of floats and carving in 5 foot waves.

Generally the 7 foot boards or 6 foot trailing fins do have

a good sense of when to surf.  The time spot is after heavy

rains.  If the weather is prohibitive then it is definitely not

for novice and beginners, where the waves get into 30-60.

Go for the 5-25 general longer waves beaches in St. Petes,

Miami, Key Largo, Orlando, and Kissimmee.  Surfing for

one hour to start with, then after a year go into 2 hours.

  3. Your pretty much outta luck on the SW coast.  Go to the East Coast.  You might get a few good days a year but you're facing the wrong direction for consistent surf.

That mtvtoni is an idiot.   Looks like he has a bot answering questions, anybody know to shut him up?

  4. please tell us you are kidding...

if it isn't already obvious, florida isn't exactly the mecca for surfing (small waves) and the west coast of florida is the worst of it.  In all's honesty, take up skim boarding.  Along the west coast of florida, it is a year round sport and is just as knarly...
