Afan Hawk declared as the fastest qualifier of the Champion Night Maiden Stayers finale
Trainer S A Howard’s Afan Hawk made his way into the Champion Night Maiden Stayers' Heat 1, defeating Droopys Greg who was pretty far-fetched. Everyone was expecting trainer N Savva’s Droopys Greg to succeed and get in the finals.
The Champion Night Maiden Stayers, held on the 29th of August, 2011, organised three Heats, the black and white dog, Afan Hawk, gave a hit in Heat 1 against his five contenders.
The three-year-old, with his amazing run, astonished everyone at the Romford stadium, although his major competitor gave him a tough time throughout the Heat, but he managed really well to stay in the game till the end.
Westmead Hawk’s son out of Afan s**y Eyes, Afan Hawk started his chase from trap 5.
He railed all the way until he got baulked. Trainer S A Howard kept his fingers crossed and as the hound came near the finish line, suddenly he cleared the way for himself and led the whole race until he reached the wire.
Afan Hawk won the purse of £150, covering his distance in 35 minutes and 82 seconds.
Droopys Greg who was a shoulder away from the champ reached the wire in 35 minutes and 83 seconds.
The two-year-old black dog, Droopys Greg, finished second in the race.
Although he was swift from the start, he lost his charm and the situation went out of control.
Trainer A M P Collett’s Boca Grande was declared the winner of Champion Night Maiden Stayers Heat 2. The black dog had the game well in hand as he raced from trap 4.
With a fast chase from the start, he finished first and covered the 575 meters distance in 36 minutes and 06 seconds.
Rathglass Hero, who was 1 3/4 length behind the winner, ran really well in Heat 2, but the situation became a hassle for him so he finished second.
Trainer R J Holloway’s three-year-old performed really well, but he could only finish by the skin of his teeth with the recorded time of 36 minutes and 20 seconds.
Cockney Diva, a three-year-old b***h, gave overwhelming results. She caught everyones' eye in the stadium by defeating four dogs and a b***h racing against her in Champion Night Maiden Stayers' Heat 3.
Trainer P W Young’s black hound started her chase from trap 1, with a superb run she streamed through her five contenders.
Keeping her chin up, she not only finished first in the race but made herself enter the finals.
Unexpectedly, the young champion gave a tough shot to trainer P R Garland’s black dog, Confident Nomad, even though he was swift when he begun his chase, but eventually diva took the lead which made Nomad finish second in 36 minutes and 25 seconds.
The winners of the Champion Night Maiden Stayers' Heat 1, 2, and 3 have made qualified for the finals, which is scheduled on the 7th of September, at the same stadium. The lucky one will be rewarded with a purse of £1,000.
