14-year-old Hannah O'Sullivan to battle hard at the U.S. Open
Hannah O’Sullivan, the 14-year-old Bay Area star will play in the upcoming U.S. Open.
The golf prodigy is making headlines as the youngest player to ever qualify for the U.S. Open. This is a dream come true for O’Sullivan, who has her heart set on becoming the top pro in the world.
O’Sullivan will be the second youngest player to play in the event. She secured the entry to the event after her win at Half Moon Bay tournament.
This was not enough for the young O’Sullivan. She next won the qualifying rounds for the U.S. Girls Junior, in Merced, on June 15.
What makes Hannah O’Sullivan great?
Many say that it is her Irish roots. The family is extremely enthusiastic about golf fan and usually attends LPGA events at Blackhawk in Danville.
This was her introduction to the world of golf. Hannah O’Sullivan started out with miniature golf at the age of 6. This hobby soon became a passion for her and her golf career really took off.
Greg O’Sullivan, her father said that her phenomenal success in golf stems from her early victories in the sport. Hannah won a couple of junior tournaments and this really boosted her confidence.
Elaborating his comment, Greg O’Sullivan said, “Once she started to feel she was doing well, getting medals and trophies, that started to build her enthusiasm and commitment level to golf”.
At the age of 12, Hannah won the California Junior Girls state championship. She is the youngest winner of the title so far.
She also secured her entry into the U.S. Women's Amateur, which will be held in Charlotte, N.C. This entry was confirmed after her win at the first American Junior Golf Association tournament.
Hannah O'Sullivan is also at the top of her class. She is a straight-A student, much to the pride of her parents.
They have taken precautions to avoid an early burnout, a common problem with the young gifted golf players. There is no golf on Mondays and the subject is avoided in the household.
Hannah O'Sullivan will play alongside top notch golf players in the U.S. Open. This would give her valuable experience and teach her some new tricks that would take her far into her career.
