What is ''sort observation'' for fedex?

in order to apply there, i have to go to a ''sort observation''. what exactly is that?

  1. I don't work for FedEx, but I assume that what they are requesting is that you first observe the job that needs to be done, before you just assume you can do it, and apply.  

    Many years ago I had a friend (a young woman) who applied for a job loading trucks for UPS.  It was a sort of a "I am woman, hear me roar," proclamation.  But, we were all shocked when she passed all the tests and got the job.  In the end, she hated it.  The physical toll very high, and the hourly pay was high.  But, because the work was so demanding, she averaged only 16 to 20 hours per week.  She was always sore, and broke.  I don't think she lasted a month.  

    FedEx is probably trying to make sure people don't make the same mistake my friend did.
