Contributions of Immigrants to the United States

Immigrants add more than $30 billion in income for American workers (U.S. born). In terms of innovation per capita, immigrants in the U.S. beat the U.S. born workers. A greater number of immigrants start up businesses compared to native born Americans; their start up pace is estimated to be 40% greater. Other report findings included that immigrants had a lower probability of ending up in prison and committing crimes. It was not surprising that the CEA report found that more workers yield greater output as this would be expected in the United States as with many other nations. Immigrants play a role in the country’s macroeconomic growth and their taxes help increase public budgets. The study found that on average, immigrants and their offspring contribute nearly $80,000 more tax revenue compared to natives. This will help offset the problem that will arise with the nation’s Social Security system but it will not take care of the problem entirely. Due to the large number of “Baby Boomers” retiring in the near future, the number of retirees will outnumber the number of contributors. The Medicare program has also seen an increase in enrollees and will also benefit from more tax revenue coming in.

  5. Love immigrants, love diversity, hate hatred.

  6. Legal = Good; Illegal = Bad, plus, I'd like to see a little more "diversity"- more Asians, Africans, & Europeans. It seems like we're getting most of the recent arrivals from the Americas...

  7. Latin immigration is out of control.  They feel entitiled.

  8. TOTAL AMNESTY

  9. Awesome. Let's feed the melting pot. Diversity is cool &a good thing.

  10. I am currently immigrating to Australia from America, because I married an Aussie, however being that I have lived in areas of the USA that were adversely effected by the influx of illegal immigrants, I believe that America needs to make the borders more difficult to cross.

I have and had no problem with people that try to enter a country legally.

But, if they do, they need to contribute to the economy where they are.

Most immigrants in the areas that I have lived, legal and illegal, sent the money they made back to their remaining family members in other countries, since the American dollar is stronger than their own. So, if a person comes to a country, they need to be prepared to not only contribute to the economy, but also realize that the country is not nor should not have to cater to them. You want to live in the US then learn the language well enough to communicate. Don't expect all the English speaking people to learn your language. You become a citizen, you are then saying that you agree to the values that the country stands for...I know this, because I am going through this right now. Australia has a very strict immigration policy, and while it is a royal pain in the butt, it makes it clear to me that America really should adopt something similar!

There is never a perfect solution. Immigration to America is popular. And there are many different cultures being represented there. But if they cannot do it through legal channels, then they should be deported...and anyone that supports, gives work to or hides illegals, should be fined heavily.

In Australia, if a company were to hire illegals, they will be audited at the end of the year and will have to account for the money spent, all of it... and if they paid an illegal, then they are fined so heavily, or even lose their business license. So really things can be more strict in the US...they just need to do it!

  11. Well, in the USA is a complicated issue. Many people come here without following the rules, escaping from poverty in their countries.

Bad thing, also criminals come here.

About the other countries in America, I don't have much information.

It is my understanding that Mexico considers that only they are allowed to cross the border. They stop any other people from other countries from crossing their territory to cross the border

    Not good

  12. We are being over run by illegal immigrants to the tune of 300,000 per month.

2/3rds of that number are from Mexico with a small percentage from South America.

Even the legal immigrants are coming in in disproportionate numbers enough to destroy the core culture of this country because they refuse to assimilate into our society.  They refuse to speak english, over-fill our schools which we pay for, burden the health care system so much that we as citizens can not attain proper care, work for wages that most of us could not live on and demand special treatment or they call us all racist.

Well excuse me this is MY country and if you don't want to obey the laws...get the H out.

  13. Immigration is good, but it has to be done legally. As long as they come in the right way it is fine. if not they have to go home.

  14. Illegal immigration is not good, but it has become very very difficult for people immigrate legally. There are tons of forms, fees, waiting, waiting, red tape, limited numbers of visas, interviews, and more waiting. The rules and conditions are strict and it is expensive, which makes it extremely difficult for "your tired, your poor" to legally immigrate at all.

I think we need to embrace diversity and open up immigration to those who, like the early immigrants of America, want to come and work hard to better their lives.

Also, once someone becomes a legal permanent resident, it still takes years before they are even allowed to bring family over to the US. You must be a PR for several years before becoming a citizen.
