Waqar Younis wants to earn same respect as coach as he earned as player
Waqar Younis, the national coach of Pakistan cricket team, is eager to follow his accomplishments as a Pakistan player in his new role as head coach.
"I want to earn the same respect and adulation as the national coach as I earned as a player while representing the country," said Waqar while talking to a Pakistani sports channel. "I am someone who is trying to give the same commitment
and responsibility to the team as coach like I did as a player,” he added further.
Eyeing upon the next year’s esteemed World Cup event, the former captain of the Pakistan team said he wants to leave the coaching position at a successful note. The prolific paceman of his time replaced Intikhab Alam as team coach after
a win-less tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 earlier this year.
Pakistan cricket is going through the worst times in the history of the game with various on and off the field scandals embroiling the side
The worst among all the scandals is the spot-fixing controversy which, in all probability, might make http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 miss at least five of its experienced players during the much waited quadrennial cricketing event next year. The five players
include Test skipper Salman Butt, pacers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, wicketkeeper batsman Kamran Akmal and the spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314. Butt, Amir and Asif have been provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council under article 2 of its anti-corruption
code while the last two, according to sources, have been banned from being considered for the World Cup squad by the apex governing body.
Keeping in view the squad without at least 4 first-choice players(Kaneria not being the first choice in one days), there are serious qualms regarding the performance of Men in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 followed by
2011 World Cup which is being held in the subcontinent on February 19 next year. But the 39-year-old former speedster was confident that his men have the potential of surprising any international side and silencing the critics.
"There is talk about the team being without some of its leading and senior players and how it will impact our performance in the World Cup,” said the Pakistan coach. "People forget that when Imran Khan led Pakistan to the 1992 World Cup,
young players in that team played a pivotal role in the success and went on to become star performers for Pakistan.”
Waqar feels the biggest challenge at the moment is to ensure minimum injury issues with the remaining players that would make the World Cup squad.
