Vancouver Island Golf Trail: Canada’s share in the best courses in the World
Canada’s British Columbia, apart from its boundless beauties, is also home to one of the most scenic and breathtaking trail of golf courses at Vancouver Island. The city of Vancouver, which has been named several times as the best city in the world, provides
incomparable experience to the connoisseurs of the sport from all over the world.
Centre of culture and excellence, the city owes much of its fame to the thriving orchestra and nightlife. Artists as well as audience from across the world, flock the city during its famous film fares and awards, and while Hockey remains the mainstream sport
of the nation, the city officials have worked relentlessly to help Vancouver evolve into the next major golf destination of the world.
Vancouver Island Golf Trail is a blend of 12 spectacular golf courses and around 15 hotels and motels which combine to provide the best golfing experience to its guests. Surrounded by thick deciduous wilderness, the trail starts from Victoria and stretches
to no less than 155 miles along the eastern side of the Island.
The Golf Magazine nominated the Vancouver Island as “one of the continent’s best values”, citing the Vancouver Island Golf Trail as the main reason behind its nomination. Also the Conde’ Nast Traveler has been voting the trail as “Best North American Island”
for several years.
The trail got its first major booster shot with the opening of Bear Mountain Resort. Its Mountain course designed by none other than the “Golden Bear” himself and his son Steve, is the major destination of tourists. The 18-hole course also includes Westin
Hotel alongside the clubhouse.
Bear Mountain remains the most celebrated and frequently visited courses on the trail and offers amazing views from its 14th hole. The course was host to 2010 Telus World Skins Game which was won by Mike Weir and the runners up included four players
along with Fred Couples.
Valley Course, another of Nicklaus’ designs, opened in 2009 and is considered a comparatively easier course.  Mountain Course, yet another Nicklaus designs, has actually 19 holes with an extended Par-3 15th in the middle. Highest pacific course
has been recently added to the list of scenic Courses across the island and has one of the most affordable greens fee on the trail. The weekend rates for the peak season values around $60.
The tour operators offer three golf seasons on the trail, the off-season, and the shoulder months - the early spring, fall and the summer season which holds the most visitors in the year. The trail is accessible both by numerous ferries operating in the
Strait of Juan de Fuca and Victoria’s Inner Harbor as well as by road.
Vancouver hosted the first ever winter Olympics in the year 2010. Although notoriously famous for harsh winters, Vancouver proved much warmer than many of the pervious venues of winter Olympics. The city is located at the south west coast of BC and is surrounded
by the Pacific on the west, Queen Charlotte Strait on the North, and Strait Juan De Fuca on the South which separates it from the Washington State Periphery.
Vancouver is the largest metropolitan on the Canadian West Coast, with an estimated population of 2.6 million. The average temperatures in the month of February range from 40.6° F, while the summer temperatures do not exceed from more than 77-90° F. Contrary
to its wet reputation, the city hardly receives any precipitation in summers.
