Trainer Joe Gallagher reckons John Murray’s shot selection was not the best – Boxing news
The former British, Commonwealth and European Champion John Murray recently lost his first professional fight last Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Liverpool’s Echo Arena against the Dagenham Destroyer, Kevin Mitchell.
The mouth-watering domestic showdown for the WBO Intercontinental title between the two best Lightweights ended in the eighth round when Mitchell unleashed a dazzling left hook on Murray’s chin forcing him to crash to the canvas.
Gallagher afterwards commented on the fight and told the media Murray did not go for body shots when they were needed. He revealed he was yelling towards Murray to go for the body shots but he did not listen and kept looking for the headshots.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “When we had Kevin on the ropes the shot selection wasn’t the best. I was pleading with John to go for the body shots but often he was looking for the head.”
Gallagher however admitted it was an explosive fight and both pugilists did well to put boxing back on the map.
Mitchell has agreed to give Murray a rematch but he wants it after he becomes the world champion and Gallagher believes Murray will definitely want to overcome his defeat.
“But John and Kevin have done what they promised and put British boxing back on the map. There is talk of a rematch and I think John will want to put the record straight,” said Gallagher.
The 26-year-old boxer from Manchester, Murray, previously had an unbeaten record of 31 fights including 18 by the way of a knockout. Therefore, Gallagher knows a lot of questions will be asked from his fighter.

Gallagher remarked, “The record has gone and all good things come to an end. There will be a lot of questions asked of John now and we will see how he answers them.”
Let’s see whether Murray gets a chance to avenge his defeat against the Essex combatant Kevin Mitchell or not as it will certainly be another enthralling battle.
