Shuai Peng defeats Lourdes Dominguez Lino in the 1st round – Rogers Cup 2011
Chinese Shuai Peng outshone Hispanic Lourdes Dominguez Lino at the Rexall Centre in York University, Toronto Canada in straight sets of 6-1, 7-5 in the pairs first round match at the 2011 Rogers Cup.
The two players had contested once prior to this event at the BNL D’Italia tournament held in Rome, Italy where Peng had won on the clay courts with a 6-3, 3-0 victory. Lino’s prayers were answered and she was given another chance
to avenge her loss, but alas! That was left to imagination.
Peng opened the match by serving first and with an immaculate direction struck zero double faults while her Hispanic opponent struck to line faults and lost 2 points.
Lino’s serve was failing her and had barely attained a 44% in her total service points, along with, a worsening return as she was unable to recoil her shots and landed a meagre 23% in her total return points.
Placing her shots effectively against her opponent, she won 73% of her first serves along with a grand 86% of her second serves; she accomplished a total of an exceptional 77% of her total service points.
In addition, her sturdy defence did not slip even once and she did not set up a single break point opportunity for her rival instead, she capitalized on 25% of her adversary’s break points and accomplished a 65% win of her total
set points against Lino’s, who had exactly half as fewer points, making it a 35% win in the total set score.
Taking a beating in the first set did not disappoint Lino instead she kept on trying and only managed to win 100% of her break points, while, saving only a bare 25%.  Although, this time she had a better return and serve, her numbers
were still below the par as compared to Peng’s, who clenched 58%  and 50% in her total serve and return respectively.
Amidst the second set the world number 17 (Peng) was unable to save any of her break points but broke her opponent 75% and both the players rallied it out until Peng hit a dead net and  scored a point.
Therefore, she won the set by accomplishing 37 out of 69 points, making it an average 54% win of the total set score and gaining 5 extra points than the Espanola.
Shuai Peng this has had winning streak of 44 wins and only 17 losses. She reached her career high ranking of world number 16 on the 25th of July 2011. The right hander will now face her compatriot Li Na in the second
round of the Rogers Cup 2011.
