Scott Piercy makes eight consecutive birdies in the third round of Reno-Tahoe Open
Scott Piercy set the course on fire with eight back-to-back birdies during the third round of Reno-Tahoe Open, which is taking place at the Montreux Golf & Country Club in Nevada. The Professional Golf Association (PGA) event is carrying
a purse of $3-million alongside 250 FedEx points.
American Piercy teed-off from the front and reeled eight consecutive birdies starting from the par-5 second to set a new record. He capped the front with a score of eight-under par 28 and marched towards the back for two more birdies
and one eagle. The player walked to the clubhouse with a double-digit figure of 61.
Piercy was incredible in finding the fairways, as he relished a success rate of 93 percent, which means that he hit 13 out of 14 fairways. Moreover, he accomplished a score of 23 in Putts per Round, which was the lowest for the day.
“It was fun to see the ball go in the hole. First two days was kind of a little frustrating because I hit it well and didn't see a whole lot go in. I told my caddie yesterday, I said if I can keep hitting it well and get a few balls
to go in the hole, we might do something special. I didn't think this, but I'll take it when I can get it, you know,” Piercy said while speaking to reporters after the day's play.
Piercy was followed by Josh Teater, who compiled a score of six-under-par 66 with the help of eight birdies and two bogeys.
A total of six players shared the third place on the leaderboard with a score of 10-under-par, which include Pat Perez, John Merrick, Blake Adams, Chris Riley, Steve Elkington and Nick O’Hern. Perez compiled the lowest score of the
group, 65, after teeing off from the front. He reeled a single birdie at the front and five at the back alongside an eagle.
Trailing him by one shot was Merrick who carded seven birdies against a bogey to post a 66. The impressive aspect of his play was his long game, which was drop dead accurate. The player relished a success rate of 100 percent in driving
accuracy, which meant that he did not miss a single fairway, while teeing.
