Scotland’s John Higgins to miss snooker events in 2012-13 Snooker Season for family’s sake
Reigning World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins will be defending his world title against some of the top guns of snooker at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The Scotsman will be facing the Chinese potter Liang Wenbo in his opening match of the
2012 World Snooker Championship on Saturday, April 21. The Scot is aiming to defend his title with all his strength despite his poor form in the recent season.
Meanwhile, the defending Champion is also worried about the increased number of tournaments in the snooker calendar as he can hardly give his family any time. He admitted that the reason behind his low form in the recent season is because he missed a couple
of snooker events in the beginning which really affected his performance.
This year as well, the Champ is a little worried because he only has one month after the 2012 World Snooker Championship and he cannot cope with that because his children’s holidays are at that time and he will have to miss a couple of snooker events again
this year. Despite that, he is happy to see the game growing because of World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn’s decisions.
Speaking to the media, Higgins said, “I believe next year we are playing more events in China. Basically, when the World Championship ends we have a month off. It's hard juggling kids' school holidays and stuff.”
The Wizard of Wishaw added, “Sometimes when you've been away for a while you don't fancy going to the club to practise. I know the reasons I haven't done well this season. Walking out on Saturday morning to defend the world title is the most nerve-wracking
feeling in snooker and nobody wants to lose on the first day.”
Right now, the 36-year-old Higgins has all his focus on defending the world title against the leading cueists in the world. Higgins won six titles in the last season but tumbled down in the current season. However, he wants to start the next season with
his hopes high and is aiming to perform better. It will be interesting to see how Higgins manages to pull himself out of his recent poor form and battle it out with some of the top players to build some much needed confidence in his game.
