Real Madrid general manager Jorge Valdano insists club doesn't need Wayne Rooney
Real Madrid general manager Jorge Valdano has told
Telemadrid that the Spanish giants already have enough attacking talent at the club, and that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney would not be needed.

Valdano’s words come amidst an almighty furore over Rooney’s future, with the ex-Everton striker reportedly set to leave the Old Trafford club after a fallout with Red Devils' boss Sir
Alex Ferguson.
Real Madrid’s history of signing ‘Galacticos’ has led to them being labelled as favourites for his signature, but Valdano insists otherwise. "We have two wonderful players (Cristiano Ronaldo
and Gonzalo Higuain) up front and they showed last season that are able to score 60 goals. (Angel) Di Maria and (Mesut) Ozil will help. The question is who is removed for Rooney?”

There’s no doubting Madrid’s wealth of attacking talent, but Rooney would be an asset to any side in the world, as well as being hugely marketable – something Real has always liked to
exploit.
There have been suggestions that any deal between the two clubs for Rooney, would involve out-of-favour Frenchman Karim Benzema, who Ferguson has been a known long-term admirer of. Valdano
again moved to quash any such rumours, insisting that Benzema has a long future at the club, and would prove himself at the Bernabeu in good time.

"There is an open debate on the club at the moment and there are very young people that have a lot to prove – for example, Benzema. He is very young and maybe we have solved that problem
for the next 10 years."

One thing is for sure, this story will not being going away in a hurry. Rooney is arguably England’s most talented player, and any transfer story involving the player will gain wide interest.
He’s had an altogether torrid six months, and it may just be coming to a head.
