Patrick Richards confirms his stay with Warriors until 2013 – Rugby League news
The Ireland international, Patrick Richards, signed a two-year deal with the Wigan Warriors to put an end to the ongoing speculation of either moving to Sale or back to the National Rugby League (NRL). Patrick “Superman” Richards has confirmed his stay with
the Warriors until 2013 on May 6th in a press release.
Richards has expressed his satisfaction on how the things have turned out for him at Wigan Warriors. He said, “I am pleased that my immediate future has now been sorted and I am thrilled to be staying with Wigan.”
29-year-old star winger started his NRL career during the 2000/01 season as he joined Parramatta Eels. In 2003, he moved to West Tigers and remained with them until 2005 season.
Richards helped the West Tigers win the 2005 National Rugby League Premiership title. He played a critical role in the Tigers success in the season and finished the season with 20 tries. He played in the 2005 final in-spite of suffering from an ankle injury.
Patrick Richards joined the Wigan Warriors in 2006. In these five years, he has made 153 appearances for the Warriors. He has scored 1,535 points, which includes a record 105 tries.
Richards started his careers with the Warriors at the centre position but later switched to the winger position after the retirement of Brett Dallas. Later in 2007, he was given fullback position after the retirement of Warriors star fullback Michael Withers’.
Commenting on his decision to stay with the Wigan, Richards said, “I’m hoping to play a major part in bringing more success to our magnificent fans over the next couple of years.”
In February 2010, Richards became the first Australian player to score 1000 points or more for Wigan Warriors. He achieved this feat in the Warriors 58 – 0 win over the Catalan Dragons and ended the match by scoring 38 points.
He still holds the record for scoring most points in a super league match for Wigan Warriors. In 2010 season, Richards scored 462 point surpassing Andrew Farrell’s 388 points record.  His performance was central Wigan successful campaign to win the 2010
super league title. Later in the year, Richards won the Man of Steel Award and shared the Albert Goldthorpe Medal.  
Richards made his international debut for Ireland during the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.  He has made four international caps and has scored 32 points including 3 tries.
