LeBron James takes on Dirk Nowitzki for the NBA World Championship – Part 1
The NBA Finals 2011 are mere hours away now and as fans the world over tune in to watch the biggest spectacle basketball has to offer, two titans of modern basketball get ready for their date with destiny.
For LeBron James and Dirk Nowitzki, this is a second chance. This is what they have worked towards throughout their careers and for both, this time they can’t let it slip through their grasp. The two of them have been here before and both have fallen.
Nowitzki came knocking in 2006 and faced up against the Miami Heat. After going 2 – 0 up in that series, his team crumbled in the next four games against the might of Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade. It’s taken him five long years and a completely changed support cast, barring Jason Terry, to make it back.
The man he faces came up short against the San Antonio Spurs in 2007. He changed everyone around him and tried to come back, only to fall apart time and again. So LeBron James decided to change his own place rather than that of his teammates. He arrived in Miami with a mission to get the elusive NBA World Championship, the only thing stopping him from staking a claim among the greats of the game.
Now surrounded by his star teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the “Chosen One” has another shot at doing what he was chosen to do.
It is ironic thus, that the two superstars hounded by a similar past have come face to face in search of a common redemption, and only one of them will walk away with it. When the NBA Finals begins, the matchup will be Miami Heat vs. the Dallas Mavericks, but in many ways it will be Dirk Nowitzki against LeBron James.
It is a fascinating matchup and both players so far have pretty much been unstoppable in the playoffs. They also have serious help with some stunning players sharing their load. Something’s got to give.
LeBron James, after struggling early on in Miami has slowly found his rhythm. He has found his role in the team and now he keeps on getting better and better. The post season has seen one big game from LeBron after another as he has exorcised past demons, in the form of the Boston Celtics, and slew new ones before they could take a hold of him, A.K.A the Chicago Bulls.
LeBron has consistently taken the lead during clutch periods, both on offence and on defence. Whether it is a final three pointer handing Miami the win or a defensive stop that takes the game away from their opponents, time and again it has been LeBron James coming up with the big plays.
It’s hard to find a fault in King James game. He is a mountain of a man. His strength means he can go toe to toe with any player you put in front of him. While his speed means he will likely blaze past most of them. LeBron has been amazing this post season. After finally getting the kind of quality players around him that he has been crying out for, for years now, James has shown this post season just how decisive he can be.
