Inspection sticker from another state?

Hi,My car is registered in NC and i am in NY at the moment.my registeration sticker is expired.Can an NYC cop give me a ticket for that,being that technically I am not under his jurisdiction?Can he enforce another state's laws?I just got a ticket and I am trying to beat it.

  1. Yes, having an expired inspection sticker is like having  expired registration on your car. The cop was legally correct in giving you a ticket. They usually don't do it unless they stop you for something else. You could get a NY inspection and take it to court, then they might let you off. Good luck!


  2. If your vehicle is registered in another state or from a state that requires annual vehicle inspection, any other state can & as you found out will enforce the law from another state. Because you are required to follow state laws from your registered state & the state that you are in. You are in his jurisdiction if you were in the state that he is a patrolman.
