Golf Update: John Mallinger may be one of the top favourites in Las Vegas
Ever heard of a graph that goes way down at first, then way up again in the same spell? John Mallinger has. The Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open is due to be held from the 21st of October to the 24th and has a tough
field striving for the purse of $ 4,300,000.
The event include players like Charley Hoffman, Ricky Fowler, Alex Cejka, Lunde, John Mallinger, Kevin Na, Scott Piercy, Alex Prugh, Nick Watney, Cameron Tringale, Dean Wilson, Tommy Armour III, Chad Campbell and Chris Riley, all pushy for the top spot.
While Martin Laird is aiming for a 2 in a row win as the defending champion, John Mallinger is also determined to grab the apex with his interesting record. The U.S. national may be one of the favourites at the Las Vegas event.
In the previous four years of the US Tour, Mallinger has earned the 2nd place once and the third place seven times. Considering his previous record, he might just grab the first place this time at the Las Vegas event.
His dedication and hard work is something to consider seriously, Mallinger has been trying to enter the magic 125 number of times in the money list and has finished three times at 60, thus fighting to maintain his card each year. The thirty one year old
is heading to Las Vegas this time from the spot number 132 and is again 7 places in the 125 periphery. His current standing has gifted Mallinger a good chance to grab the playing rights for the next year 2011.
About the topsy-turvy year the starter had, the thirty one year old had a bad start but managed to card a splendid second half. John Mallinger faced certain equipment issues from the months of January to June and recorded some terrible numbers. The man from
California missed 12 cuts out of the 13 he played and thus marked a lowly start in hopes for a better second half.
From July onwards, Mallinger carded seven top twenty five places and then a 3rd place finish at the Wyndham Championship 2010. The Long Beach resident scored a remarkable 62 at the final round of the event.
Coming to the 2 Nationwide Tour events, the Californian ended these events once at the third and then tied at the seventh place with a 28 under par. Mallinger continued with his superb form in the events that followed and thus carded a 66, a 69 and then
one 68 to stand on the 6th place at the Frys.com Open.
According to Mallinger, he has been playing a good game in the past days. He said that if the golfer gets the momentum he’s looking for, then it’s the best thing that could ever happen.
“It’s a feeling when you say: so it’s finally happening” Mallinger said.
Other than the momentum Mallinger holds, he also has the advantage of playing the Las Vegas event as his home game. The golf course has been the subject of change a lot of times and now has been shredded to a 72 holes at TPC Summerlin. Mallinger has the
history of ending third at this venue in the year 2008 with two 64s. The six foot golfer also holds a sturdy record at the Reno-Tahoe Open in Nevada's other PGA Tour event.
The Reno-Tahoe Open held this year witnessed Mallinger holding second place at the final round of the event. The previous rounds had been enough to announce Mallinger as the winner but his last round took a rough turn and placed the thirty one year old on
the 21st place.
With 1.5pts e.w. John Mallinger at 66/1 has a rather good silhouette to become latest first-time winner of this event.
