Uli Hoeness: Germany are favourites to win Euro 2012 - Bundesliga news
Bayern Munich president, Uli Hoeness, has rated Germany as favourites to win the Euro 2012, banking on their current form. He stated that Spain are the only team who could stop them from achieving their goal and the DFB-Eleven have already devised a strategy
to stop them.
The president told that Germany have become a lethal unit since the 2010 FIFA World Cup and it would be difficult for the reigning world champions to beat them this time around.
He admitted to Spain’s quality upfront but opined that the Spaniards lack a bit in the midfield and Germany could conquer them easily.
Hoeness praised Joachim Low’s men on having an outstanding year and wished them best of luck for the upcoming European competition. He also urged the players not to take things lightly against any opposition and give their hundred percent if they want to
win the tournament for the first time since 1996.
The former Munich attacker believes that Spain are the only team who could stop Germany from fulfilling their dreams. He also claimed to be favourites against the Netherlands despite always being considered underdogs against Bert van Marwijk’s men.
While talking to Sky Sport News, Hoeness further mentioned:
"I see only one match for Germany, which is Spain. At the moment, I am of the opinion that Germany is better. If Germany play like they did in the first half against Holland, then Germany need not be afraid of anyone.”
"It is only the question of who gets into the final against Germany. Therefore, it does not matter who else is in their group." He added.
Germany qualified for the main draws by staying unbeaten throughout the qualifiers, winning all of their 10 games.
The tournament will officially get underway next year in June, though the draws for the main round are yet to be made.
However, it is strongly believed that the DFB-Eleven would either get to face Spain or the Netherlands during the group stages.
Meanwhile, Hoeness also commented on Bayern Munich’s progress this season and assured the fans of a comeback regardless of losing three of their last five league games.
