Dutch International 2012: Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba grab Mixed Doubles title
Poland’s top players Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba made their presence felt when they grabbed Mixed Doubles title at the Dutch International 2012 in Netherlands, on Sunday, April 15.
In the title match, Robert and Nadiezda showed aggression and toppled Russia’s Andrej Ashmarin and Anastasia Panushkina without showing even a slight mercy.
Robert and Nadiezda, who were the top seeds in the event, showed impressive performance and bagged the final contest without facing any problem at all.
On the other hand, the Russian couple could not cope up with the elevated play of top seeded Polish rivals and lost the final contest without winning any game.
The in-form Robert and Nadiezda played remarkable badminton in the opening half of first set and remained in wonderful control. They did not let their lower ranked Russian challengers to get their flow at any stage.
Robert and Nadiezda were miles ahead on the board until the one-minute break in first set.
After the interval, the top seeds continued playing to their maximum speed and did not show any sign of slowing down the pace of the game.
They were in impressive form and managed to take advantage in the game by taking the opening set with an impressive margin of 21-10.
In the second set, Andrej and Anastasia tried to employ their attacking shots while dominating the pace of rallies at net.
They played positive and better game this time and did not let their top seeded opponents to set up any lead.
In the meanwhile, Robert and Nadiezda tried to take lead but failed and remained close to their opponents until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Robert and Nadiezda geared up their speed but again failed to dictate the pace of rallies. They could not control the bird at net and remained struggling until the ending points.
However, at this crucial stage, Robert and Nadiezda showed their brilliance by playing positive badminton in the middle of the court and won the set with a thrilling score of 21-19.
Robert and Nadiezda emerged as crown winners after beating Russians in the final match with a 21-10 and 21-19 margin on the board.
