Disney’s Field Hockey Showcase to begin February 10 – Hockey Update
ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida will be the venue for the 2011 Disney Field Hockey Showcase scheduled for February 10-13.
It will be a four day event with over 1,700 athletes and 144 teams from around the USA that will be given the opportunity to show off their talents in front of some of the top college recruiters in the country.
Due to an excess demand the event has been restricted to two age divisions namely the U16 and U19. The eligibility is confined to girls only. The registration for the showcase has been carried out on 9th February for both the age divisions.
The condition to qualify for the registration was that teams must have been a well-ranked member of the club recognized as ‘Club Member of USA Field Hockey’.
Disney has also created a new event called Disney Summer 7s and 11s National Club Championship, which is for the U12 and U14 age groups, just to meet the demand a bit more.
A total of 64 clubs have participated for the U16 that have been divided into Pools A-P, each comprising of four teams. Whereas, the U19 comprises of 80 clubs divided in a group of four in Pools A-T.
In this Showcase, each game will be played for a duration of 50 minutes, which means each half will be of 25 minutes. Teams will earn 3 points for a win, 0 for a loss and 1 for a draw.
In case of any unfavourable weather conditions, the Tournament Director is authorised to shorten, reschedule or cancel the match.
The two games that are to be held on February 10 will be:
Connecticut Revolution Vs Pinnacle at Field 17
Quik Stix Vs Viper Red at Field 17
It will be an exciting tournament with large number of participants all showing off their hockey talents with the hope of getting selected by some of the college recruiters in attendance. The fans of hockey will not want to miss out on this wonderful tournament
that is youth oriented.
