A look at Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ failures in 2011 season – NFL Season Review (Part III)
Continued from part II...
Against Indianapolis Colts
After starting a season on negative note, Tampa Bay had done well to recover. They had won the next two games following the loss and were looking hungry.
After beating Atlanta Falcons on their home field, the Bucs hosted the Indianapolis Colts, who did not have services of quarterback, Peyton Manning.
In Manning’s absence, Colts were already struggling and the game against Tampa Bay did not help their cause of getting first victory of the season.
Colts made a good start to the game as they scored a field goal in the first quarter without allowing Tampa Bay to score, but they were unable to secure the lead.
Colts got a touchdown in the second quarter, but Buccaneers also got a touchdown in the same quarter and the halftime score, 10-7, settled in favour of Colts.
In the third quarter, the Bucs scored a field goal to level the score, but Colts replied by scoring a touchdown. However, they could not hold on to the lead for a long period of time and Tampa Bay got a touchdown in the same quarter to once again level the
score.
In the final quarter, the Bucs got another touchdown while Colts could not provide any scoring move.
The final score, 24-17, settled in favour of Tampa Bay.
At San Francisco
After winning three games in a row, the Bucs were looking pretty strong, but their visit to San Francisco to play the 49ers exposed their defence as well as offence.
49ers were remarkable in terms of defence and even though they did not have equally impressive offence, they were able to provide scoring moves rather easily against the Bucs.
49ers scored a touchdown in the first quarter in which, the Bucs got a field goal, which was their only scoring move of the game.
In the second quarter, 49ers added two touchdowns and a field goal to enter the halftime with lead, 24-3.
In the third quarter, 49ers scored another touchdown and a field goal and the final quarter witnessed them scoring two more touchdowns.
The final score settled at 48-3.
Tampa Bay’s head coach, Raheem Morris, said after the humiliating defeat:
"Flat start. Flat finish. Flat middle. Everything. We didn't even get off the plane this time."
After playing five games, the Bucs had won three and lost two.
