  1. Gore Mountain in New York doesn't get most of the crowds that most places get.  The people who work there as well as most of the patrons have been going there for years.  It takes about the same amount of time to get there as it takes to get to Killington so most people go there for the nightlife.  Gore doesn't have the nightlife but it has good terrain and they get lots of lake effect snow.

  2. Kimberley BC...bet you've never heard of the place, don't worry nobody has except the locals

Beaver Mtn UT...same thing, the tourist flock to the better known Park City or Alta

Toronto Ski Club...best skiing in Ontario but private members only right next door to Blue Mtn but with better runs and without Blues crowds

none of these places even have a reputation for being "Locals Only" or any reputation period because nobody has even heard of them that's the beauty of being a true "Locals Only" hill and that lack of reputation preserves what makes them great ski hills

  3. try out june mountain in CA. It's owned by the same company as Mammoth, it's located 30min north from mammoth, it's not really a "local" mountain but it's fairly unknown compared to Mammoth, and i assume you're looking for a place uncrowded...

  4. Okemo, cuz its very friendly there compare with the other mountains around there

  5. never been but my parents say its telluride.  very treacherous terrain that the city folk can't handle

  6. Smaller places have a majority of local skiers.  You mentioned New York so I'll use Titus Mtn, Dry Hill, and Snow Ridge as examples.  Not really places you would spend a whole weekend at, but a day trip would be fine.

If you are looking at something bigger then Wolf Creek or Telluride in Colorado are good ones. They have tourists but because of their location they don't get the volume of week-enders that someplace like Summit county does (Breckenridge, A-Basin, Keystone, Copper Mtn).

You can find less crowded runs just about anywhere if you can get in good with a local or two.  I've had some great times like this by letting them take me on some of their "secret stash", and the most it has ever cost me was some conversation and a beer or three.

    Have fun and great skiing!
