Look up some Dean Koontz, he's fantastic at writing; they won't be short stories though, but when you read it you'll want it to continue! And some more: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, Anything by James Patterson, and some stuff by Anne Rice, that's kinda SciFi because it deals with Vampires.
