Star Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who was recently named in the national squad for an upcoming T20I series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 after being out of action for nearly 12 months, has expressed the intent to use the T20 format as a springboard for his return
to cricket, after which he intends to ease back into the longer formats of the game.
“ODIs and Tests are tougher on the body, but T20 is the place to start,” said Yuvraj. “I hope to get stronger for longer formats with time.”
Player of the Tournament from India’s 2011 ICC World Cup victory, Yuvraj was diagnosed with a rare form of germ-cell cancer known as mediastinal seminoma late last year, after which he underwent chemotherapy treatment at the IU Simon Cancer Centre in Indianapolis,

Following his return to India in April this year, post-recovery, the southpaw has been busy with fitness training at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore since June, and expressed the intent to make a comeback to the sport via the upcoming 2-match T20I
series against New Zealand in early September. The decision was motivated by his inclusion in the preliminary 30-man squad for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20 in September this year, as Yuvraj looked to fit in some match practice prior to the mega event.
His fitness reports from the NCA were studied by the selection committee, who deemed his progress satisfactory enough to include him in the 15-man squad for the T20s against the Black Caps. His selection after a prolonged period of illness and recovery left
the 30-year-old overjoyed.
“I had told myself that one day I would come back and play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 again,” Yuvraj said. “I was determined to do that. However much I had to go through with the cancer, I kept the faith because I wanted to step on the field again one day. Today I've got
the news that I am going to be stepping on the field again. I am ecstatic.”
The flamboyant batsman has played a total of 37 Tests and 274 ODIs for the national side, in addition to 23 T20Is. The T20Is against the Kiwis (due to be played on September 8 and 11) mark his first appearance for the national side since November 2011, when
he played his last match for India – a Test against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in Kolkata.
