Yamaha 1100 virago oil light coming on?

Question

i have a 87 1100 virago, with the proper oil and oil level in it. when i get on the throttle, the light turns on, and stays on until i leave off the gas. speculation??

I have the same problem with my 89 1100.  From what I am finding out - this is a oil level light NOT an oil pressure light.  Ignore the light or remove and clean the sending unit.

Apparently it is an oil level, not oil pressure light. If the oil level in the sight glass is okay, I suggest removing the oil sender (near the kick stand) and cleaning it at your next service. According to viragotech, this is a common problem with viragos.
