Wong Tat Meng resigns as Malaysian coach to join the Indonesian squad – Badminton News
Malaysian coach of the national badminton squad of Women’s Singles, Wong Tat Meng, intends to join the Indonesian shuttlers in March, as he resigned from his designation on February 11.
Due to his vast knowledge and experience in the field of coaching, the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) has offered him a rewarding position which he accepted in order to enhance his coaching skills in a foreign country, which is regarded as one of
the top badminton nations in the world.
Wong Tat has an extensive experience of more than eight years of training elite badminton players in the national squad of Malaysia. He was hired by the Badminton Association of Malaysia in 2003, to train junior players of under-19 years of age. In 2005,
he worked under the supervision of Li Mao, the former national coach, who is currently the head coach in Indonesia for the Singles category. Wong Tat, once again started to train juniors shuttlers in 2008. He was promoted last year, when he became the coach
of the national squad of Women’s Singles.
He will get busy with the Singles shuttlers of Indonesia and again will be assisting PBSI head coach, Li Mao. According to his views, it will be a great experience to work in a different environment which will add value to his credentials in the domain of
Singles’ coaching.
He is optimistic about his decision, as he will be joining forces with Indonesia that has a tremendous history in the field of badminton. Indonesian shuttlers have always been at the top and have won gold medals in all major events in the world of badminton.
The coach is hoping to learn new things in the coaching department, as every country has their unique coaching and training system which will be highly valuable for him to grow further in this discipline.
Indonesia has a rich badminton culture and also an established training system that makes it a distinctive badminton plating nation in the arena of the game. Working with Indonesian coaches, along with the top badminton players of the world will be a considerable
addition in Wong Tat Meng’s knowledge.
The coach is quite confident to serve well in Indonesia, as he has already worked with Li Mao when the Indonesian was a part of Badminton Association of Malaysia. Wong Tat worked under his supervision for a period of three years, which will help him in getting
familiar with the different conditions of Indonesia. He is expected to join PBSI on March 11 and will become the first Malaysian coach to work for the Indonesian Badminton Association. Meanwhile, he will also serve in the national squad of Women’s Singles
in Malaysia.
