  1. My kids have a tendency to just keep right on going through the summer, it's simply that I no longer expect a certain amount from them anymore. Each summer, it's the same thing--they pull out workbooks and start complicated art projects or my daughter will start writing chapters (for books she never finishes writing) or we find cool science experiments to do... I suppose you could say the official schooling is over but learning never stops. :)

  2. I'm for the most part taking the summer off.

  3. No summer off here. We will be working through so we can take time off in Oct. to do some cool family stuff!

  4. yes u can  take the summer holiday off becaz if u still study in the summer holiday it will be quit boring.

  5. school work and a lot of it

i have to read a biology book called dna the secret of life

and write an essay on it

then i have to read the first four chapters in the biology textbook and answer a bunch of questions

then i have to read this book for language arts and take notes on it

i also have a math class online which im not nearly done with

in the middle of july i have to go to school like everyday for marching band

yep my summer was a lot of fun

    : (

  6. I'll be doing chemistry and math over the summer. My two AP classes start in August.

For nerdy fun, I'm fiddling with Wheelock's Latin and some mp3 lectures about American History.

It's all pretty relaxed, and I asked for it, so I can't really complain.

  7. I remember doing school work during the summer while I was in college, but it is your choice.

  8. We work all year long. We work for 6 weeks and then take 2 off. We also take off from "formal school" from thanksgiving until new years. We take the time and do fun stuff like make cookies and candy and we do life skills.

  9. We don't take the summer off, but we do change what we learn.  More time on outside activities, more art classes, and the like.

Math, reading, social studies and science are year round, because they are fun.

One of my child's teachers mentioned the fact that life happens year round - learning should as well.

In addition, taking the summer "off" results in the loss of up to three months of learning.  Who wants to spend the first two/three months of school relearning the same material from last year?

  10. I don't home school, but I think it's fine to take a break from formal schooling during the summer.  There are plenty of opportunities to teach informally, like cooking, fire safety, first aid, wilderness/survival skills, ettiquette and manners, etc. without having a formal schedule.  Kids need time to play and be social and summer time is a great time to learn how many twin popsicles you need to share with 10 kids.

  11. this year i have to study economy &matts during the summer till the 11 of july ;(

    i'm so mad..for this....

however if you think that you will do somenthing during the summer take it off...but you now sometimes ti work is also relaxing....

    bye

  12. We school through the summer - ds doesn't get bored that way -  but we take off for things like camp, vacation, and mom-needs-a-break :)
