The brand was actually named after Hollister Lowe a photographer based in N.Y.C. who's great sense of style and aesthetic inspired the Abercrombie & Fitch people.

it was named after the place HOLLISTER CALIFORNIA.
hence...the fact all there clothes say HOLLISTER CALIFORNIA there is a place in california called HOLLISTER. and the company is owned by the same ppl as abercrombie and fitch. im pretty sure its not named after ' john hollister'
