  1. Warhol and other pop-artists saw the post-war trend for mass produced items and the ever growing availability and desirability of consumer items, and used these as a basis for their work. They took what other people saw as routine and everyday, things that could easily be overlooked in everyday life and elevated these into art status. Warhol also used commercial print techniques in much of his work, producing hundreds of reproducible images aswell as his singular screenprints.

Pop-artists, by using these techniques and subject matter, took away much of the "awe" of art, you didn't need any specialist knowledge to understand his works and they could be appreciated by all people from all walks of life.

On the cult status, well Warhol actively  projected himself , one of the first to court the cult of the celebrity.........

"Who wants the truth? That's what show business is for, to prove that it's not what you are that counts, it's what they think you are." - Andy Warhol from America

He created a work and social place known as "the factory", and a whole lifestyle surrounding him.

As to why Warhol is still revered, well his popular culture based works are still understandable by many, and as other "Greats" he has left a legacy that has informed and affected subsequent artist to this day, he gave possibilities for future generations of artists.
