  1. Because South Carolina had rice and a good harbor. On the other hand North Carolina didn't have a great harbor. Rice is a really great crop so South Carolina was wealthy. They happened to split because they weren't alike in any way.


  2. Because of the leader, he died and no one was able to fill in his shoes. Carolina was a big state so they thought it would be easier to divide Carolina into North and South Carolina, so it would be easier to govern.
