When looking for a HELOC should I go to a broker who will shop the loan?

Question

I guess I am wondering if I should just go to the bank that I bank with or a broker who will look at several lenders. I have some concerns with my credit so I'm worried if I just go to my bank and they say no that thats it. However, if I go to the broker they can look around for loan options. How do you shop for a broker? If that is what I'm looking for that it.
