Question:

Whats wrong with my shooting?

When i shoot my bow every day i become good and i can hold a 3" grouping at 60 yards without problem. But if i put my bow up for a week i can’t hit a pie plate at 20 yards. The bow feels funny to me if that makes since. It takes me a few days to get back into consistent shooting. I use a kisser button and peep and try to maintain consistent form and fallow thru every time i shoot. This is my third bow and i never had this problem with the first 2 bows i had, i could pick them up after not shooting for a month and shoot great groupings. Also my arrows fishtails a lot, but i picked them using the chart supplied, they are gold tips, and i have rechecked the sizing chart to see if i goofed but i didn’t. Any thoughts?

  1. work on your breathing tech. & release sounds like your not holding steady the more you shoot.

  2. I used to work in a bow shop for years. If you can maintain a 3 inch group at 60 yards you are  an unbelievable shooter, and there is nothing anyone could tell you.

I would say you need to paper tune the bow and find out why its kicking; a bow shop can do this.

I also think that if you put down the bow then have a problem a week or so later, its a head thing.

Again, maybe you misprinted  the yardage, but 60 yards is olympic distance, maybe you meant 30 or 40 yards. I don't doubt 60 yards is not possible, but a 3 inch group at that distance is the best I have ever heard anyone do.

  3. I don't know a lot about the fishtailing but you can try experimenting with different arrows.  As for the bow itself, there's 3 possibilities:

    1.  You and the bow just aren't made for each other.  Maybe the shape of the bow doesn't fit your body structure, frame, or size.

    2.  Maybe the bow isn't made for anyone.  It could be that the designers just messed up and made something that doesn't fit well or naturally with any human, that is possible.

    3.  You need more time with the bow.  Maybe if you used it every day for a month it would become as second nature to you as your other bows.

    Good luck.

  4. that is some awsome shooting! is this a recurve bow or long bow. i was told that they tend to change when put away for any period of time, but are consistant when used regularly. its just normal ! you should shoot competively. hope this helps
