What is the "dilemma of difference"?

can someone please explain what a "dilemma of difference" is? how does this relate to gender and racial issues?

The dominant groups in my society in regards to gender are males and in regards to race are Caucasians.  Being "different" than the dominant group can cause prejudice and discrimination.  This is certainly a "dilemma" in all societies where intelligent people are not able to compete and contribute to society because they are not the right color or gender.  Hope this is a good start.
