  1. The primary requirement is that it should be an area of exceptionally low precipitation (rainfall or snowfall). Thus the Antarctic continent qualifies as a desert whereas the Arctic does not.

    Deserts are often found in the lee of high mountain ranges, where the height of the mountains dries out the air stream passing across them, leaving no moisture left to form rain clouds beyond.


  2. Beside the lack of rain falls and the availability of water, deserts physically formed from lose sand and dunes, the weather is very hot during day time and could be freezing at night which cause the sedimentary rocks crack and form more sands, the type of living things either animals, insects or plants have natural protection to survive the harsh weather.
