Cannes definitely is one of the most expensive cities. Nice has a lot of suburban areas that are cheap, but then delinquency is a problem

I live near Cannes and I can tell you it depens on where you live exactly!

Real estate prices are not the same on the croisette (along-the-sea-downtown blvd ) and in other remote places around.

The most expensive places in Cannes are the buildings along the sea (croisette ), and the "golden square" (4 block behind) + the hillside place called "Californie" outside downtown.

All the rest is like the average prices around the riviera.

The cheapest places are the remote high-rise popular buildings near Le Cannet (closer to the highway, far north )

About food, clothing, etc...prices are quite the same everywhere...just avoid Dolce & Gabbana and sushi bars  if you can't afford !

You can live good and pay all your bills if you make around 1000 US$  a week.

It depends of the period you want to go there. Is it for holidays or for a longer period??

Summer is most expensive than the other seasons but anyway both, Cannes and Nice,  are very expensive. Food, going out, dining out, everything is expensive in the french riviera.... and finally it's not the most beautiful place (according to me)...

And yes it's right, Cannes is more safe than Nice...

the highest in france for sure and not worth it imho. most places in france are so much nicer than the riviera.
