  1. It's been awhile since I've looked for an apartment here. Back when I was looking for a place in the fall of 2005, there was a lot of competition and other people looking at the suites with me. I remember a big thing for landlords was that they wanted to know you were working. I suppose for stability. My story to them, "I just moved here and haven't got a job yet", didn't seem to help me much. I am and was otherwise a clean and stable guy. I didn't find something then and I took a place I knew was available for a couple of months. When I was looking later that fall, WITH a job, the landlords were like, when I called them to follow up, "Oh, you're the chef guy""blah blah blah, come and sign the lease", all friendly and interested like. So yes, that is one more thing, many landlords want you to sign a one year lease, so that if you move before that year, you forsake your damage deposit (half a months rent) and maybe something else comparable.

That's all I can think of.

  2. A  landlord is going to want the first and last month's rent plus a damage deposit, all in advance. As long as you keep paying your rent in advance, you won't have problems.

  3. They will want your first months rent, a damage deposit (half the rent) a work reference and a previous tenancy reference.

Also your photo identification. Way around it... get friends to reference for you. Also, most decent places will do a credit check. Good luck
