  1. idk

  2. It would be helpful if you used it in context, but I can think of two possibilities:

    1. The composition of the sled, i.e. what it's made of. This is generally wood, such as ash, with a metal strip on the runners to support a QRC (Quick Runner Change) system using poly/plastic runners. In the past, some mushers have experimented with various materials for their sleds, including aluminum, carbon fiber, etc. However, wood seems to be the standard favorite. More info:

    2. I suppose the other possible meaning, in context, could be what is carried in the sled. One of the primary rules of the Iditarod is the list of mandatory items carried by the mushers at all times:

A musher must have with him/her at all times the following items:

    * Proper cold weather sleeping bag weighing a minimum of 5 lbs.

    * Ax, to weigh a minimum of 1-3/4 lbs., handle to be at least 22” long.

    * One pair of snowshoes with bindings, each snowshoe to be at least 252 square inches in size.

    * Any promotional material provided by the ITC.

    * Eight booties for each dog in the sled or in use.

    * One operational cooker and pot capable of boiling at least three (3) gallons of water at one time.

    * Veterinarian notebook, to be presented to the veterinarian at each checkpoint.

    * An adequate amount of fuel to bring three (3) gallons of water to a boil.

    * Cable gang line or cable tie out capable of securing dog team.

    Hope this helps!

  3. i think it refers to the contents of the sled. mushers are required to have some items with them such as an artic parka, 3 sets of booties for each dog, a certian number of pounds of food for each dog...... those kinds of things.  it can also be considered the composition of the dogs pulling the sled, as in the dogs attributes that put them on the team. check out the iditarod site or the cabella site to find a complete list of the required items in the sleds.
