Many modern computer keyboards include a rubber membrane between the key's surface and the electronic circutry inside the device. When liquid, such as water, is spilled on a computer's keyboard, it can result in a short circuit. If the computer is turned on when the spill occurs, the level of damage increases. Therefore, the computer should be turned off as soon as spill occurs to help minimize the risk of damage, and should be left unplugged to dry for about two days before attempting to use it again.
