I recently read about sylvia likens murder. Its a horrible thing and makes me sick. i was just wondering what happened to Paula Baniszewski? She seemed to be really sick.

i was truly apalled after reading some of the posts a few people wrote responding to other reports about the ppl involved in the sylvia likens case.guest 22650305 who said "sylvia was no angel" and the "the likens were white trash"?!? seriously?!??did you even know this girl?the only thing she ever did wrong was trust this awful,sadistic family and not report what was going on before it was too late.and to the "juvenile defender" you have alot of nerve!!!yes they should be in jail for the rest of their lives for watching and participating in the murder!it was because of those children and gertrude that one girl was murdered and the other one was beaten and too scared to tell anyone til a police officer came and saved her from that h**l on earth shack and devils rejects.and to guest 16364330 i swear you were involved yourself with what happened!!"its a crime to harass or contact these ppl and they served their time for their actions"...well,im sure we all know the law and if i ever saw anyone involved with this crime i would most likely spit at them myself!its a free country and if anyone wanted to remind them of how they are garbage and a waste of human existence i'd be right behind them!i never even watched the movie,but as soon ad i watched deadly women and then went on the internet and read more about it i started to cringe from all the disgusting things that poor girl had to endure.im in my second year in law school and of all of the cases i've studied this is by far one of the worst ive EVER heard of!i wish i was alive and living around that area at that time so i could have done something for those girls!as soon as i got finished watching the program and reading about what had occured i said a prayer for sylvia and jenny,no one will ever hurt either one of them ever again.as much as i'd love to get up from my computer chair and find any of the banizewski family that is still alive im sure that they will all get what they deserve when they stand in judgement before god.being "overwhelmed raising several children" is no reason to commit murder and torture a beautiful, young girl.rest in peace sylvia

Like thousands, no millions of other single moms. Funny how they don't turn into monsters. Funny how some apparently nice married middle class folks do - only they're probably less likely to get caught, or even raise suspicion.

Agreed, she was a 16yo girl. Probably more docile and controllable than most her age - sadists don't like challenges.

That reason is pretty simple, Mrs. B. picked on the one that wouldn't. That's typical of sadists. See above.

What worries me is the discrepancy between the moral outrage here, and the reactions of the neighbors - they did absolutely nothing, much worse - they joined in. And this isn't a one-off case, either - this is common. Unlike Mrs. B, these were ordinary folks that would have been as outraged as anyone writing here. How exactly do the Mrs. Bs of this world (and there are a lot of them) get that kind of power? That should be food for thought.
Paula Baniszewski, at seventeen the oldest of the Baniszewski children, was sentence to twenty years to life for her partial role in Sylvia’s death. She gave birth to a baby girl who was initially named as Gertrude, and was later adopted. She unsuccessfully attempted to escape twice from prison in 1971.In 1972, she was paroled and assumed a new identity. She eventually married and has two children, reportedly she lives on a small farm in Iowa today.

Paula & Sylvia (as teens are wont to do) talked a little trash in the halls of Tech H.S. in the fall of 65. Paula had gotten herself pregnant and there was talk, gossip, criticism etc. It is my strong belief that Sylvia was no angel. These folks (the Baniszewskis and Likens) were white trash. I'm sorry but it's pretty much true. Of course Sylvia did not deserve any of the abuse. None. A 37 yr old woman with seven kids broke. Her looks and s*x appeal were gone. Her life was miserable and the future looked bleak. Sylvia became the object of her frustrations. Stlvia for some reason did not fight back. Not much anyway. She gave up and took the abuse. A sad commentary on the human condition. BRR

I can't help the anger I feel against this miserable family and the stupid a*s neighbors for ignoring the screams of this beautiful child. What the f**k is wrong with people, why would you NOT call the police and tell them there is something wrong at that house, please come check it out. FUCKERS..

f**k that family and their neighbors, school teachers, sunday school teachers and anyone else who turned a blind eye and abandoned this poor child. You all have blood on your hands.
I say drag them by horses and have their families put to death by firing squad.. successfully wiping the earth clean of their deliquent dna. opinion differs? let's torture your children.. just be ready to forgive after.. and feel plenty good about it.. in fact.. make more after the fact.. and raise them well.. so you can hand them over, too.. turn the other cheek, right? what gives murderers the right to seed the world with their filthy brood? i bet lil sylvia would have liked to mother children.. have a family like the children who beat on her have right now.. couple generations pass.. and it's water under the bridge.. like nothing ever happened.. and life goes on.. unless you're sylvia.. her family tree ended.. and i'm sure it'll repeat down the line.. torture with sadistic glee? sounds like something a lil deeper. like a dna malfunction. keep quoting scripture. and blow it out yer a*s when u have nobody to carry on your legacy and it all ends with you. we don't need ya around. we look forward to it. these people need to be found and pass the ridicule down for generations.. have them wear a mask of shame so that all may see the burden they carry.
It surprises me to read people referring to God and h**l on the one hand, whilst totally forgetting that the whole basis of Christianity is forgiveness. These people have served their sentence and don't need to be hounded, especially as they may have children who will become stygmatized as well.
Strange how hundreds of thousands of people who have done similarly cruel things without a film being made of them are allowed to live their lives normally without a witch hunt. I recommend that you all watch a great Brit film called Boy A about this subject.
Stephanie has (had?) a page at classmates.com -- Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis, IN --- using her birth name: Stephanie Baniszewski. I believe she was in the graduating class of 1971 (somewhere in that era). I've read the posts on it. She even uploaded pics of her as a child AND a pic of her and Paula as children.
