My husband and I feel absolutely run down and exhausted, stomachs are bothering us (this started in Costa Rica) our bodies ache. He had a fever while there(and the "runs"). I have never felt so bad coming back from a trip. I even took a day off and slept all day when we got back. I don't think it's jet lag I there's only a 2 hour diffenence and we still went to bed and got up when we normally would our time. We didn't hardly do anything while there mostly relax. We did eat the local food from restaurants. I avoided drinking anything but bottled water.

  1. Honestly..i'd go see your  doctor.  I've been to CR a few times a year for about 13years and never had any problems...none.

I took my brother a few years ago  for the 1st time & he came back sick - after many days of just thinking it was something he ate, jet-lag, and any other excuse...he went to the Dr. and turns out he has an amoeba...it took about 6months of meds to get rid of them completely - who knows where or how he picked it up - we ate basically the same things at the same places -

He doesn't blame it on CR....he's been back and had no problems...just one of those things...so my advise...if you are not feeling consistently well in a few days...go see a doctor.

Please take care of yourself...stay well hydrated...fyi...alcohol will just dehydrate you...don't "get drunk"...

    Nan

  2. If you think its something to really worry about the best thing to do is to see a doctor.

  3. Well it could just be that your stomach isn't used to the food in Costa Rica(condiments etc) That can explain your stomach problems.

    But I think it's jetlag.

Also you were probably in a plane with like 200 other people. You could of catched someting maybe??Ever thought of that.

Consult a doctor if you're really that worried.

  4. I think that both answers have a lot of truth in them.  You could have picked up a stomach virus.  It's very easy to do.  When I first moved from Chicago to Costa Rica, I picked up a couple of stomach viruses.  The way you describe things is how I felt.

Also, food manipulation leaves a lot to be desired, not only in Costa Rica, but most everywhere.  Finally, even if it is only a few hours difference, the bit of jet lag or even the stress from traveling could have lowered your immune systems enough to be affected by something which you would otherwise have fought off.  And thanks for mentioning the TicosLand website.  We try to furnish as much information about Costa Rica as we can in our directory.

  5. It could be jetlag.  It's as likely an explanation as any.  The fact that you didn't purposely drink water doesn't mean that you didn't ingest water.  Vegetables are generally washed with water and some of the water stays behind.  In fact, food establishments are told to treat their vegetables to with a bit of bleach to kill of any harmful bacteria.  However, not all food establishments comply with the requirements.  I don't if you heard about a problem they had with E-coli bacteria in La Princesa Marina, one of the major restaurants in the San Jose area.  Anyway, drink lots of fluids, and I hope you feel better.

You can get any information that you want regarding Costa Rica on the TicosLand website.

  6. maybe... could be a virus or secondary effects of a fully condimented food.

the water is very clean, almost all the country had best quality of water than other countrys... and so much better quality or water that USA had...
